First Connection to Load Balancer

  • Change your network interface card parameters to
    • IP address = 192.168.168.1
    • Network Mask = 255.255.255.0
    • Gateway IP = 192.168.168.168
  • Connect your network interface card to the
    • DMZ port in for the Optiqroute 2140, 2180 and MeshVPN 2340 and 2380 models
    • 4 port switch in the back for Optiqroute 2120 and MeshVPN 2320 models
  • Open your browser (Mozilla Firefox is recommended)
  • Access with: http://192.168.168.168:8000
  • Enter enable password = 5638889
  • You can change now LAN (adding secondary IPs) for later access

Passwords

Two passwords can be set up to access the Fiberlogic load balancer. The fist password will only give access to the INFORMATION and UTILITIES menus and will not allow you to change configuration (this password can be given to users for them to monitor unit). The second password Enable Password grants access to the programming CONFIGURATION menu as well as to the INFORMATION AND UTILITIES menus. This password is for the system/network administrator. If both passwords are changed, then both need to be entered to log in as super user.

Exec Timeout

The login time out comes by default to 5 minutes. To increase to a different value, for instance 30 minutes, access the Configuration menu buy clicking on the word Configuration, proceed to change the Exec Timeout

Failover

The Fiberlogic load balancer first checks that there is an Ethernet cable connected to a router in front of the unit. However this is not a guarantee that the line (T1, DSL, cable) in front of that router is “alive”. To determine this the Optiqroute uses Peer IP address (entered under Configuration Interface WAN). These IPs need to be PUBLIC IP addresses that the load balancer is going to use to do constant pings to. We can enter extended IP address so if the first one fails, the balancer uses the other. Additionally instead of pinging we can use two other Health Methods (http or traceroute). If the balancer determines that the line is down, it switches all the traffic to the “alive” lines. It will continue to test and if the faulty line comes back up, the balancer will continue to use it automatically.

DNS Values

There are three areas to program DNS values, they are independent. The first one (if have the unit with DHCP server activated and doing NAT) will assign those DNS values to all the NIC getting DHCP leases (go to Configuration Server DHCP). The second one is in the configuration menu: by entering the values here then it is the load balancer (not the NIC) doing the DNS query. If we leave these fields empty and turn on the DNS lookup (third way) then the DNS query is going to be resolved by the load balancer and the unit will go to root to resolve and begin to cash the information.

Local And Remote Access

By clicking on the word Server in the Configuration menu. We access the screen to set up HTTP, SSH and Telnet local and remote access rights. There is also the possibility of allowing and denying specific IP addresses.

Forcing Traffic Thru a Specific WAN Interface

This is a very important aspect. Sometimes it is required that certain traffic (based on type of protocol or source IP or source port or destination IP or destination port) be forced through a specific WAN interface (so your IP does not change). This is accomplished under Configuration Route – SPECIAL EXTERNAL ROUTERS.

Graphic Reports

Different graphical reports are available under the Information menu. The example provided is under Information Bandwidth Report WAN Bit Rate. These graphs will show with the amount of traffic going in and out on the different interfaces, helping determine traffic volume and providing aid to modify the balancing programming.

How to do Firmware Upgrades And Configuration Backups

Under the Utility menu, select the option Firmware to access the following screen. Configuration backup and firmware upgrades are done here. Also we could Restore the unit to factory default.

Receiving Alerts

General alerts can be programmed under Configuration Alert by using email, Syslog or SMS message (depending on the unit). Enter the mail server IP, the alias to be sending the mail, the emails to receive the notification and finally smtp user name and password. Additionally the Optiqroute support SNMP functions under the Configuration Server menu.
